Hello! My name is Julia Basantes and I am an incoming Junior at UNE who is majoring in Marine Affairs. I am from Southern New Hampshire and love going to the beach, kayaking, hiking, biking, and skiing in my free time. After I graduate from UNE I hope to go into a civilian career with the Coast Guard. This summer I will be taking three online courses for the first time. These courses include Reading/Writing in a Digital Environment, Lifespan and Development, and Sociology of Food and Health. Over the summer I will also be volunteering at the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH. At the Seacoast Science Center I interact with visitors and answer any questions they may have about the marine life at the Seacoast Science Center. I also monitor the touch tanks which house some small sea creatures. After I graduate from UNE I hope to pursue a civilian career with the Coast Guard. In my blog I hope to inform readers more about marine conservation. I may touch upon topics such as the dangers of plastic pollution, shark finning, coral bleaching, ocean acidification, overfishing, sea temperature rise, and more!
